  Bowen Therapy
The late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia, developed the Bowen Technique in the 1950s. Although he had no formal training, saying that his work was 'a gift from God', he successfully treated over 13,000 patients a year. In 1974, he invited Oswald Rentsch and his wife Elaine to study with him and document his work. After his death in 1982 Oswald and Elaine began to teach the technique across the world
  What is it?
Bowen technique allows the body to reset and heal itself. The treatment consists of gentle moves on the skin (or through light clothing) with the client
  How does it work ?
There are many theories how Bowen therapy works, but none that completely explains its holistic effect and outstanding results. The body is a highly complex unit dependent upon the balance of all its aspects. Bowen views disease holistically; one move may address the entire system producing maximum results with minimum intervention. Unlike some other hands-on disciplines, the Bowen technique encourages a gentle response which empowers the body's own resources to heal itself. The moves are light, gentle and very precise. Frequent pauses between moves give the body time to respond and benefit.

As with any other holistic therapy, the parent may be asked to practice some simple exercises on their child and avoid other forms of manipulative treatment to give the body time for the technique to work.
Who can it help ?
You do not need to be unwell to benefit from Bowen, as it is an effective way to help the body function at the optimum level of health.

It is safe to use on anyone from newborn babies to the elderly and can be used during pregnancy and after an operation or injury. Some of the wide range of conditions that respond well to Bowen include; asthma, migraines and headaches, ME, childhood disorders, neck and shoulder problems, knee and ankle problems and stress
